Malcolm Guite Makes History with Alfred, Lord Tennyson Inspired Book, “Galahad and the Grail”

For the first time in 167 years, someone is retelling the Arthurian legend! Poet, priest and Cambridge University fellow Malcolm Guite releases “Galahad and the Grail” on March 23rd, 2026, according to a press release from Turning Point Media Relations.

It’s the first volume in the “Merlin’s Isle: An Arthuriad” series. Guite is a pioneer in this poetic retelling of the 1859 classic Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s ‘Idylls of the King.”

“‘Galahad and the Grail’ carries readers to the magical shores of Faerie in all its mystery and meaning as Sir Galahad and the other knights of the quest set out from Camelot to achieve the Holy Grail. The accomplishment of their goal will bring about the long hoped-for healing.”

Malcolm Guite: “I have loved these stories since I was a child and I heard them from my mother who was a great storyteller herself but also had extensive knowledge of the medieval sources, especially the great gathering of those stories and their rendering into Middle English by Sir Thomas Malory in the 15th century,”

The Rabbit Room Press book boasts illustrations by award-winning artist Stephen Crotts and Hugo Award-winning author Susanna Clarke contributing the foreword.

“Galahad and the Grail” is currently available for preorder wherever books are sold. The “Merlin Isle” series will continue with “The Coming of Arthur” (Fall 2026), “Knights of the Round Table” (Summer 2027), and “The Passing of Arthur” (Spring 2028).
