On April 10th, 2026, BTSCelebs attended opening night of “Disney’s “Mary Poppins’ In Concert Live to Film” at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. It’s so easy to get lost in the iconic movie, because conductor Anthony Parnther and the Lyric Opera orchestra give a mesmerizing performance of the original tunes and entire film’s soundtrack.
During this show, the original award-winning “Mary Poppins” movie, that starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, plays in all its cinematic glory on the big screen with subtitles. The story, which is about a magical nanny caring for two lively siblings in 20th Century London, brings delight to fans of all ages and backgrounds. Mary guides and entertains the children and the youthful adults around her. The children’s parents even learn the value of scheduling quality family time because of Mary.
“Mary Poppins” at Lyric Opera gives audiences an enormous stress relief and utter happiness. Living proof is that rounds of applause rang throughout the evening. New life is breathed into the mystical classic under conductor Anthony Parnther’s leadership. The current music director for California’s San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra makes the audience feel like we have arrived at the first live recording of the “Mary Poppins” music score. It’s 1964 meets 2026! Anthony is in the seventh year leading the west coast orchestra and has been apart of the music behind many famous movies including the Academy-Award winning films “Sinners” and “Oppenheimer.” Anthony and Lyric Opera orchestra’s performance for this movie is so full and robust that the legendary 1964 film seems like it was filmed yesterday.
Stand out live performances are “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Jolly Holiday,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” and “I Love To Laugh.” The already beloved songs are given audio 3D thanks to Lyric’s orchestra.
The overtune and interlude are also captivating. The overwhelming feeling that a sensation is about to take place is real.
Hopefully, “Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’ In Concert Live to Film” returns to Chicago soon. It’s an amazing show that deserves another run.
A special thanks to The Silverman Group and the Lyric Opera of Chicago for the press passes and image.
