Theatre Review: The Joffrey Ballet’s “Modern Masters”

“Modern Masters” is a must see!

The Joffrey Ballet continues a season of excellence with its latest show running through February 18. “Modern Masters” pleasantly surprises you with the dynamic dancing in The Four Temperaments, Body of Your Dreams, Beyond the Shore and Glass Pieces.

The Four Temperaments seems to explore the internal conflict humans deal with on a regular basis. From confusion to sheer happiness, you feel the emotions we all go through during the course of our lives. The George Balanchine choreographed dance, which originated in the 1940s, may have been based on ancient philosophy about personality types, but I think everyone can relate to the emotions the dancers express here.

Body of Your Dreams, which was choreographed by Myles Thatcher, tells the story of fitness fads brainwashing us. It truly opens your eyes to the meaningless outcome of only having the perfect exterior while ignoring your soul. The dancers did a great job getting the message across.

Beyond The Shore was a mix of thriller and fantasy. Dancers literally took us on a journey from the netherworld to outer-space. Each short story makes you think outside the box where you actually anticipate the next story, while being enthralled in the one unfolding before you.

Glass Pieces highlights the seemingly simplistic work of Philip Glass in the most exquistie way possible. The Jerome Robbins’ choreographed dance placed a spotlight on colors, the calming  flow of people walking and tribal dance. The dancers gave the finale their all as they worked hard expressing classic operas in the form of ballet.

Bravo to all of the dancers, choreographers and musicians! Everyone did a fantastic job and should be very proud of themselves. I feel this was the most impressive modern dance set I have seen in recent years. Yoshihisa Arai and Victoria Jaiani are the mesmerizing solo acts to look out for in The Four Temperaments and paired up in Beyond The Shore. I guarantee you will be completely blown away by their infinite energy and expertise.

“Modern Masters” runs thru February 18, 2018 at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago .

BTSCelebs to Review “Hearts Entwined”

The next book on BTSCelebs’ reading list is A Historical Romance Novella Collection –“Hearts Entwined”. Short stories are always a breath of fresh air after going through a series of lengthy novels. Authors Karen Witemeyer, Mary Connealy, Regina Jennings and Melissa Jaguars are the featured writers in this particular work of art.

So far so good. I’m already on chapter 4 in “The Love Knot”, and I’m enjoying the progression of the story. Look forward to a full book review in the coming weeks.

Movie Review: “Runaway Romance”

This month, the “Love Finds You In Charm” couple, Danielle C. Ryan and Trevor Donovan, reunited on the other side of the Amish community in “Runaway Romance”.

Danielle plays reality TV star Ann who runs away from L.A. after she discovers her life off-camera is in shambles. Ann’s famous boyfriend backstabs her by getting her indirectly fired from her job, while teaming up with his mom (Tatum O’Neal) to raise the ratings on their TV show. So, Ann’s journey across the USA lands her in a small Amish town in America’s heartland where she meets Amish and Englishers alike, including her true love, architect Hunter (Trevor Donovan). He isn’t Amish, but he has Amish roots and relatives who are still apart of the classic church.

Ann finds peace from her hectic life out West and rediscovers her passion while in the quaint town. However, her budding relationship with Hunter comes to a screeching halt when her ex-boyfriend arrives to get her back. Ann takes matters into her own hands to get the happy ending she deserves.

“Runaway Romance” was just as delightful as the on-screen couple’s previous movie. I think I enjoyed this one a little more, because it was a light-hearted film with a Hallmark feel. It was made for the entire family.

Book Review: Julianna Deering’s “Death at Thorburn Hall”

Family is dangerous in Julianna Deering’s latest novel “Death at Thorburn Hall”.

In the classic mystery book, the Rainsby’s invite Drew, Madeline, Nick and Carrie to their grand estate to attend the 1935 British Open. Our crew happily  joins a group of the Rainsby’s guests for the event, but instead of having the time of their lives…. they get swept up in a triple murder mystery. Lord Rainby’s demise is just the first in a line of killings with no connection in sight. As they suspect guest after guest (and the police arrest two innocent people), Drew and his crew are stunned to find out the murderer has been right under their noses the whole time.

“Death at Thorburn Hall” was just as enjoyable as the rest of the Drew Farthering Mystery books. The suspense is thrilling and the sweet love story between Nick and Carrie is a great relief to the dark murders. BTSCelebs highly recommends Ms. Deering’s newest tale for your next reading. It’s enjoyable alone or with family and friends.
