Jessica Dotta’s “Born of Persuasion” (BTSCelebs is Reviewing)

JessicaDotta_20130716

BTSCelebs‘ next book in the line-up is rookie author Jessica Dotta‘s very first novel “Born of Persuasion”. It’s the 1st in her Price of Privilege Trilogy.

So far, I’m on chapter 3 and its very different from the first 2 books in BTSCelebs’ summer/fall reading series. It’s based in England with a reminiscent vocabulary. The story-line is good, but I’ll have to tap into my love of Jane Austen’s work to truly get into this book.

My complete review will be published in the coming weeks!

Book Review: Tracie Peterson’s “The Quarryman’s Bride”

Quarryman'sBride_RD4

“But nothing is impossible for God or with Him”

“The Quarryman’s Bride” has to be the biggest tearjerker of the year. The heartfelt novel is full of family devotion and love. The protagonist (Emmalyne) gives up her bright future and happiness as Tavin’s wife to take care of her parents following the death of her sisters.

Eleven years later, hardships continue to fall on her and her former fiancee’s family. Emmalyne’s own father has become colder as the years have passed because of his own tragic past. The story is all about turning to God to overcome numerous tragedies and obstacles that are impossible to recover from on your own.

Bring your box of Kleenex… because this story will have you weeping til the end.

Check out the official book’s synopsis below:

Emmalyne Knox and Tavin MacLachlan were destined to be together…until the tragic deaths of Emmalyne’s youngest sisters. Family tradition mandates that the youngest daughter should remain single to care for her parents in their old age, and now that daughter is Emmalyne. Her father unyielding, Emmalyne surrenders to her duty, heartbroken. Tavin leaves town, equally devastated.

Years later, Emmalyne’s family moves, and she and Tavin meet again. Their feelings for each other are as strong as ever, but their painful past and Emmalyne’s father still stand between them. Soon both families are in the midst of the growing conflict rising between the workers at the granite quarry that Tavin’s father owns and operates. When a series of near-fatal accidents occur, Tavin must figure out who is behind the attacks before someone gets killed.

Bound by obligation, yet yearning for a future together, can Emmalyne and Tavin dare to dream that God could heal a decade-long wound and change the hearts of those who would stand in the way of true love?

Priyanka Chopra Celebrates “Exotic” and Ramadan Mubarak

PriyankaChopra_Pitbull_20130405

Yesterday, Miss Chopra released her “Exotic” single and it has already risen to the top of the music chart! According to the celeb’s official Twitter account, her new single (featuring Pitball), is #1 on India’s iTunes chart.

Now, I haven’t heard the complete song, but I can imagine this track is not for the kiddies. They are probably leaning towards a more adult focused genre.

In other news, she is celebrating an Eastern holiday! Today, Priyanka tweeted the following message:

“Ramadan Mubarak everyone.. May this auspicious time lead us to peace and happiness.. Lets be grateful for all that we have..”

Congrats to the two celebs for topping the chart!

BTSCelebs Interview with Joffrey Ballet’s Exec Director Greg Cameron

GregCameron_JoffreyBallet_20130705

BTSCelebs: What sparked your interest in the ballet?

Greg Cameron: My first encounter with dance was not in a performance hall but at the venerable Art Institute of Chicago.  A field trip with a beloved teacher opened my eyes to the world of the visual arts and Degas’ depiction of movement – his focus on ballet and the ballerina sparked my curiosity in dance and movement. Fast forward to college – I am living in Salzburg, Austria and travel to Vienna for a weekend.  A friend and I purchase standing room tickets for a performance at the Vienna Staatsoper featuring Rudolf Nureyev. I do not recall the program of the evening but I do remember the amazing energy that the audience shared with this legendary dancer.  Seventeen curtain calls moved me to tears – tears of joy and a new appreciation for how the human body in motion is art at its highest form. I was sold on dance!

Name your favorite ballet performance of all time.

I love Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain. It is a timeless classic that has elements of both the contemporary and the classical, all while being exceptionally powerful emotionally. I’m excited to see his Continuum this winter in our “Contemporary Choreographers” program (February 12-23, 2014)

Who is your favorite dancer in Joffrey?

I am not a “favorite” kind of guy.  In my three short days on the Joffrey team I have enjoyed getting to know several of the dancers on a personal level.  What impresses me is their enthusiasm, commitment and discipline.  Merce Cunningham once said, “dancers shouldn’t dance if they don’t love the dailiness of it.”  The Joffrey Company under the artistic leadership of Ashley Wheater embraces “dailiness.”  I invite you and your readers to join us in September at the Auditorium Theatre as we present “Russian Masters” (September 19-22, 2013).

Where do your dancers originate from (Chicago, across the US or overseas)?

Our dancers come from all over the world.  The Joffrey is a truly international company in this regard.  You can always go to our website, joffrey.org/2012-2013-dancers, to see the broad range.

What do you hope to accomplish during your tenure with the Joffrey Ballet?

Staying mission-focused and building on past successes – we have an incredible story to tell locally, nationally and internationally.  Under Ashley’s leadership the company is dancing beautifully, the Academy of Dance’s enrollment is at an all-time high, and the Community Engagement program is introducing dance to children across the city and suburbs.  My goal, the goal of the Board of Directors and the entire Joffrey team, is to achieve the same level of excellence across all administrative areas of the organization. We will soon begin planning for the 2016 60th anniversary celebration of The Joffrey Ballet – and its nearly twenty years of calling Chicago home.

*A Special Thanks to Greg Cameron and Eric Eatherly for the Interview and Image*
