Movie Review: “Second Chance Christmas”

If you believe in the concept of soulmates, you’ll adore “Second Chance Christmas”.

Tomorrow night, UP tv premieres their first Christmas film of the holiday season. Tilky Jones and Katrina Begin star as couple in trouble, Jack and Caroline, whose love is put to the test due to shocking amnesia.

In the movie, the pair is just like any other American couple. It was love at first sight at a party, they get engaged a year later, and the chemistry dies out after a few years of mundane marriage. Lack of communication is the root of their problem, but they don’t figure it out until Caroline gets in an accident on her way to file divorce papers. Amnesia is the best thing that could happen to her, because it helps her mend broken relationships with everyone in her life (friends, family, co-worker, even the dog).

“Second Chance Christmas” is about loving and connecting with people despite a busy work schedule. It’s the kind of a well-rounded film UP tv is famous for.

I enjoyed the story and thought everyone fit their roles perfectly. The only drawback is that the pair is not a couple in real life. Their mistletoe inspired PDA makes you a little disappointed that it’s only acting.

Don’t miss the film premiere on November 5th, 2017 at 7PM (EST) on UPtv.

Peter Han Leaves Kpoppin’+ a Former U-KISS Member Joins

K-Poppin’ is changing it up once again this fall with the departure of Peter Han.

In mid-September, Peter joined Isak’s AYOU segment on Fridays. Due to a busy recording schedule, it was announced this week that he was leaving the show after only a month and a half.

Peter bid farewell once again and expressed his desire to return in the future via social media, while Friday co-host Kate shared a series of snapshots and this message:

“Don’t leave us, Peter! We will miss you very much. It’s been fun and I shall be waiting eagerly for your new music– which will be absolutely perfect because duh….”

The same day, Arirang Radio shared the happy news that former UKISS member AJ (now know as Siyoon) will be taking over as the second guest on AYOU.

All the best to Peter Han, and I highly anticipate what Siyoon will bring to the show each week.

Book to Review: Francine Rivers’ “The Masterpiece”

This Fall, BTSCelebs plans to start on the second Tyndale House book, Francine River’s “The Masterpiece”. In the book, main characters Roman Velasco and Grace Moore’s artistic tale promises to come alive, and I look forward to their journey. I wonder how an artist/socialite with a secret will relate to his personal assistant (who is divorcee). We will find out in the coming months.

“The Masterpiece” is 494 pages long. Hopefully, I’ll have an amazing review ready for you before the February release date.

Book Review: Carla Laureano’s “The Saturday Night Supper Club”

Carla Laureano’s upcoming foodie book, “The Saturday Night Supper Club”, grows on you. The novel’s charm is as subtle as the occasional supper clubs chef Rachel Bishop holds after her restaurant partners coldly buy her out.

In the book, Rachel instantly becomes the target of cyber-bulling after writer Alex mentions her in an article (aka rant) about social media. Her comment to his article, which was taken completely out of context, backfires and sends the cyber-bullies after her. In an effort to clear the restaurant of drama, Rachel’s partners part ways with her, and she is forced to re-evaluate her entire life. Of course, her freelance writer in shining armor saves the day by offering to help her set up a supper club. The club turns out to be a success, and she gets offered the deal of a lifetime. However, her future career decision is the most shocking thing no one saw coming.

Cons: Rachel and Alex’s house settings. I assumed she lived in a standard condo but was confused by the description of a front porch. Alex living on a floor full of 4 penthouses was confusing as well.

The inspirational story of a Denver-based chef who finds her new path in life thanks to handsome freelance writer Alex Kanin reads more like a classic WB evening show. It’s slow moving in the beginning, but worth it for those who adore long-term television shows. Upscale food descriptions and the love story are executed effortlessly.

“The Saturday Night Supper Club” releases in February 2018.

Theatre Review: The Joffrey Ballet’s “Giselle”

“Giselle” is awe-inspiring.

On Wednesday, “Giselle” kicked off The Joffrey Ballet‘s 2017-2018 season. The production, which originated in a 1841 Parisian Opera, remains a delightful story that people of all ages can enjoy.

I was hesitant about attending the ballet intially, because I was worried it would be too dark and sinister. I was pleasantly surprised by how bright and jovial half of the production was. I felt like I was watching a Rodgers and Hammerstein play for the entire first hour. Giselle was happily falling in love with Albrecht and the love triangle between the pair and Hilarion was so much fun to witness. Her untimely death at the end of the Act One was just the beginning of her unexpected journey to unselfish love. The dancers were perfectly in sync with each other as they seamlessly executed their moves. Dancer Hansol Jeong is the one to watch this season, because his solo performance was simply superb.

The second half took a nightmarish turn with the maiden ghosts haunting the graveyard looking for their next victim. Giselle proved that she was brave even in the afterlife as she fought to save her former lovers’ life. This ballet has the right amount of darkness to be a Halloween treat, but it’s not too scary for the kids.

As always, each and every dancer did an incredible job with the choreography, and stars Victoria Jaiani, Temur Sulushvili, Rory Hoherstein were the stand out dancers of the night. Not to mention, the background design was gorgeous. It was the ideal enchanted forest.

I highly recommend “Giselle’ for diehard fans of supernatural and classic presentations.

A congratulations once again to Artistic Director Ashley Wheater on his 10th year anniversary with Joffrey.
